Essex County Teen Nabbed In String Of Hackettstown Car Burglaries, Credit Card Thefts

An Essex County teen was charged following a string of alleged car burglaries and credit card thefts in Hackettstown, authorities said.

The 16-year-old boy is accused of stealing credit cards and several other items from a car on the 200 block of East Baldwin Street around 10 a.m. on Dec. 3, 2020, Hackettstown Police said.

Four days later, the teen allegedly stole a car from the 700 block of Washington Street that was later recovered in Newark.

The same day, the teen allegedly stole cash and credit cards from a vehicle on the 300 block of Warren Street, police said.

The teen was charged Tuesday with two counts each of third-degree burglary and fourth-degree theft of credit cards.

The teen also faces charges for theft of cash, third-degree credit card fraud and third-degree taking of a motor vehicle without consent.

The teen is scheduled to appear in court, police said.
